Homelessness Santa Clara County Written By Alberta Rose Jones, copyright protected If you
are all not aware, I travel a lot around Santa Clara County currently protesting. In my travels, I come across the homeless.
Yesterday, July 23, 2010, as i was preparing to get my protest items together, I saw a homeless man rummaging through a large
trash been. I assumed he was looking for bottles, cans, plastic to recycle. Was I ever wrong. The man was looking
for food. Did he find food? Yes. He found a bag of bread that had been thrown away. I had just purchased two cans of Arizona
tea which were still cold. I got out of my car to approach him. I gave him one of my cans of Arizona tea and a dollar.
What bothered me the most was that he was drunk. I kept thinking to myself: " Which is worse?? being drunk in the streets
or going to see Judge Stephen Manley." I would rather be drunk in the street. Unfortunately, this was the
second day in a row that I had helped a homeless person that was drunk. The other was a man I have been giving money to for
years. I refuse to tell you where he protests. That is where I got the idea of protesting. He has been protesting at
a corner in San Jose for years. How many homeless do we have in Santa Clara County and what can we do for them? If
you have not seen the movie or read the book the "Soloist" you should. I must say though that the book is ten times
better. What would have happened to Nathaniel Ayers if he had lived in Santa Clara County? Would he be institutionalized by now? Most Likely yes. Would
he be repeatedly forced medicated? Most likely yes. So if Nathaniel Ayers had lived in Santa Clara County the movie or book
the "Soloist" would not be. I have a photo of the homeless man I was going to display it but realized the powers
to be in Santa Clara County.. i.e. the final solution would go after him.. so I have chosen not to harm the man any further
and hope that he gets the help he desperately needs. Like love and compassion to help him stop drinking. It is a shame. Alberta
